Human Resources Development, B.S.

The Human Resources Development (HRD) program prepares students to become leaders in workforce training, talent development, and organizational effectiveness. Graduates from the program have advanced into high-ranking HR positions in industries such as oil & gas, healthcare, and retail.

Through a hands-on, project-based curriculum, students gain expertise in:

  • Talent Management - Recruiting, developing, and retaining top talent
  • Employee Learning & Development - Designing and delivering impactful training programs
  • Instructional Design - Creating engaging learning experiences using e-learning tools and instructional strategies
  • Organization Development & Consulting - Facilitating change and improving workplace performance
  • Program Evaluation - Assessing and measuring the impact of HR initiatives

The HRD program offers flexible learning options - online and face-to-face - to help students develop the skills needed to design and implement training programs, improve workplace performance, and drive organizational success.

Professional Studies Area of Specialization or Minor:


Minor approved course work (15 credit hours)

Electives: 12 SCH Minimum


Students must have minimum 2.00 in major.


Major GPA will be calculated based on the major requirements and the professional studies area or minor.

  • 2.00 minimum cumulative grade point average in courses attempted at the University of Houston.
  • 36 of the credit hours must be advanced (junior or senior level).
  • Thirty semester hours to be applied toward a bachelor’s degree must be UH courses
  • 12 advanced credit hours in department of major must be UH courses
  • 120 credit hours required for this degree.
  • Limit of 66 credit hours of lower-level (1000 and 2000 level) transfer credit toward an undergraduate degree at the University of Houston.
  • Students may use no more than two credit hours in physical education activity courses.
  • Students must satisfy TSI to graduate.
