A minor in English Creative Writing consists of 18 semester credit hours. Students may focus on poetry, fiction, or nonfiction. Students should complete ENGL 3331 and six hours (two different courses) chosen between ENGL 3330 , ENGL 3332 or ENGL 2318 before moving on to any 4000-level courses. Students can transfer in 3 hours of credit for a creative writing course taken at the second-year level or beyond; the transfer course must include a workshop element. Courses to be applied to the minor must be approved by the department.

It is suggested that students take this course within the first six hours of advanced English.

Literature Course at the 3000 or 4000 Level

One literature course at the 3000 or 4000 level that expands the student’s understanding of literary traditions.

Two Creative Writing courses at the 4000 level taken only AFTER the 3000 level course requirements and the literature requirement have been satisfied, as well as successful admission by portfolio. Choose from fiction, poetry, or nonfiction.
